The Races

The inaugural edition of Hemis Ultra Trail will have 2 categories.

The High Altitude challenge consists of:
50Km Trail- Beginners,
105Km Trail - Seasoned


The 50Km route is a straight out, while the 105km is an out and back one.  Each participant will need to climb high altitude pass ~16,000+ ft. once.
Both the races will be held in semi-supported format. Runners are expected to carry hydration bags with sufficient energy supplies and thermal blanket.

50Kms: Altitude gain: ~ 2135mtrs (7000ft), 1 high pass.
Max Altitude: @4964mtrs.(16,300ft)


105Kms: Altitude gain: ~2760mtr (9000ft), 1 high pass.
Max Altitude: @5259 mtrs (17250ft)

Requirements

This is an extreme demanding event. The races will be held in semi autonomy manner and in high altitudes, which will require runners to climb to 16,000ft min. Hence runners are expected to be well trained and acclimatised to the altitude. There will be certain qualifying criteria for each race. There will be limited water stations along the route. A crew support point will be available for the 105km event.

Travel Information

Leh is the capital of Ladakh region in India, in the newly formed Union territory of Ladakh. Nestled along the holy Indus (Sindhu) river in the mighty Himalayan ranges, the valley of Leh looks like an oasis in middle of the dry cold desert. Air:  - Leh has a domestic airport with daily flights from the national capital of Delhi and other airports at Srinagar, Mumbai and Chandigarh. Beautiful sights of the Greater Himalayan range will mesmerise you as fly over them on the approach to Leh. Experiencing landing on this technical airport is quite thrilling experience.


Road:  -  Leh is on National highway 1 and can be driven from Srinagar and Manali. Both these roads go through some scenic high altitude passes. The one from Manali is in particular famous for adventurous motorbike or cycling rides. 


Local Sightseeing: - Ladakh is a beautiful place and is very popular among tourists. One week is good to explore the mountainous terrain and beautiful lakes. Sightseeing tours can be easily arranged by us.


Treks: - Those who want to hike around, there are plenty of treks of various difficulty level around the town of Leh. Let us know for your Hiking, Trekking expeditions.

Climate

The weather in June is generally sunny and pleasant in daytime. In night it becomes cold. There are slight chances of few showers of rain. The region, being in high altitude has high UV index. Keep your body covered and use sunscreen and sunglasses.
