The first ever high altitude trail Walkathon / UltraMarathon Walk takes place in the very scenic protected region of Hemis National Park, the largest National Park in India. And to cheer you up will be some exotic, rare animals like Marmot, Pica, Martins, blue sheep, etc.

With Oxygen <60%, walk your lungs and heart out.

The Races

The inaugural edition of Hemis Ultra Trail Walkathon will be held in scenic beauty of Hemis National Park.

The High Altitude challenge consists of: 50Km Trail and 90Km Trail.


The 50Km route is a straight out, while the 90km has an out and back section.  Each participant will need to climb high altitude pass ~16,000+ ft. 

90Km event will be 2 staged walk, with night stay in tents at Skiu (40kms after start).
Both the races will be held in semi-supported format.  Race Walkers are expected to carry hydration bags with sufficient energy supplies and a thermal blanket.

Starting Altitude: 3200mtrs (10,500ft)

 1 high pass.

Max Altitude: 4964mtrs (16,300ft) 


50Kms:  Altitude gain: D+ 2250mtrs (7,400ft), D- 2260mtr (7,400ft)

Course cut-off: 13 hours

90Kms:  Altitude gain: D+ 3090mtr (10,000ft), D- 3115mtr (10,200ft)

Course cut-off: 23 hours

The Difficulty

This is an extremely demanding event taking place in region of  Oxygen level less than 60% of that at sea level. 

The races will be held in semi autonomy manner and in high altitudes, which will require participants to climb to 16,000ft min from 10,550ft in few hours. Hence participants are expected to be well trained and acclimatised to the altitude. 

There will be limited water stations along the route. A crew support point will be available for the 90km event at Skiu campsite.

Road:  -  Leh is on National highway 1 and can be driven from Srinagar and Manali. Both these roads go through some scenic high altitude passes. The one from Manali is in particular famous for adventurous motorbike or cycling rides. 


Local Sightseeing: - Ladakh is a beautiful place and is very popular among tourists. One week is good to explore the mountainous terrain and beautiful lakes. Sightseeing tours can be easily arranged by us.

Climate

The weather in June is generally sunny and pleasant in daytime. In night it becomes cold. There are slight chances of few showers of rain. The region, being in high altitude has high UV index. Keep your body covered and use sunscreen and sunglasses.
